Davis, Eva

Eva Mary Davis passed away of natural causes resulting from complications of a hip fracture, on Jan. 11, 2003, at 7:25 p.m. in the Fort Macleod Hospital, at the age of 85 years. She was surrounded by loved ones which included her son John, her daughter Katherine and her son-in-law Dan.
Eva Mary Davis was born in Pincher Creek on Sept. 23, 1917, to Bill and Amanda Sorge. Eva grew up in southern Alberta and settled in Fort Macleod when she married John Cecil Davis on Oct. 6, 1937.
A long-time resident of Fort Macleod, Eva was involved significantly within the community and her accomplishments included a lifetime membership in the Lioness and the Fort Macleod Curling Club. She was past Grand Guardian for Alberta for Job’s Daughters, past Matron of the Eastern Star and a member of the Rebekah Lodge. Eva was a loyal member of Christ Church Anglican and the ACW for more than 65 years.
During the war years and later, Eva worked alongside her husband John at Scougalls Garage and afterward at The Macleod Gazette. She was a “den mother” to the Cub Scouts and co-ordinated Meals on Wheels for many years. Eva also found great enjoyment with her two bridge clubs. She will be dearly missed in the community of Fort Macleod.
Eva is survived by her daughter Katherine (Dan); her sons, Ken (Sandy) and John (Barbara); her sister Mae Perry and her niece Linda (Terry).
She is also survived by her grandchildren, Dan, Cary, Cameron, Tim, Mike, Luke, Wayne and Bonnie. Eva was known as G.G. to her great grandchildren, Ashley, Alysha, Kale, Brett and Justin. She was also “Granny” to numerous friends throughout town.
Eva was predeceased by her husband John Cecil Davis in 1987 and by her beloved niece Shirley Laycraft. She will be missed by friends and above all, family.
A funeral service will be held at Christ Church Anglican, Fort Macleod on Thursday, Jan. 16, 2003, at 2 p.m. with Rev. Noel Wygiera and John Viens officiating. Interment in Union Cemetery.
