Battjes, Janske Adriane (nee Timmer)

Janske Adriane (nee Timmer) Battjes, beloved wife of Tammo (Tom) Battjes passed away suddenly on Friday, April 3, 2009, at the age of 77. Janske was born on Sept. 25, 1931 in Gorinchem, The Netherlands. She immigrated to Canada and became a proud Canadian citizen on March 1, 1973 in Waterloo, Ont.
While going back to Montreal, from a vacation out west, she met Tammo on a Greyhound bus near Winnipeg, Man. They were married on May 16, 1964. Janske is survived by her loving family, Tammo Battjes of Lethbridge, Jasper Battjes of Lethbridge, Jeanette (Grant) Deurloo of Granum; and two grandchildren, Christopher and Benjamin Deurloo of Granum. Janske is also survived by her siblings Gerda Duyvis-Timmer, Thea (Henk) Bakker-Timmer, Ada Smit-Timmer, Huibert (Els) Timmer and brother-in-law Egbert Battjes all who reside in The Netherlands.
Janske is predeceased by her parents Jasper and Martina Timmer; two sisters Rieneke Timmer and Tineke de Kam-Timmer; her aunt Gerda Van Donk; and her brothers-in-law Pete Battjes and Ed de Kam. Although Janske had many accomplishments in life there were a few that stood out. This included being a lay pastoral minister serving numerous pastoral charges within the United Church of Canada. Janske was also very proud of the accomplishments that her husband and children achieved. Janske loved her grandchildren dearly. She will be deeply missed! Janske faced all her challenges and recent illness with courage, strength, and determination. She relied heavily on her faith to pull her through all of life’s challenges.
We will remember Janske for her dry sense of humor, devotion to her family, and her desire to serve God. As a family we wish to extend a huge thank you to all the staff of Unit 4B at Chinook Regional Hospital and the Fort Macleod Community Support Beds for their support in the last few weeks of Janske’s life.
A memorial service was held in the Granum Christian Reformed Church on Thursday, April 9, 2009, at 2 p.m.
