Anna Grier (nee Pedersen) passed away suddenly in Fort Macleod on Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2009, at the age of 80 years.
Anna is survived by three sons and their families: Norman (Kelli) and their daughters Clara and Laura of Calgary; Theo (Linda Vanee) of Okotoks, and their sons Darrell and Brendan Grant; and Bob (Kristin Buhrmann) and their sons Eric and Liam of Pincher Creek.
Anna is also survived by her sisters Alma Heap, Helen Therriault, and Esther Hewitt, brother Harry Pedersen and their families also mourn her passing.
Anna was predeceased by her parents Klemen and Johanne Pedersen, her sister Madge, her brother Albert as well as her husband Alan. Anna was born in Twin Butte on March 27, 1928. She grew up on the family ranch just south of Twin Butte. In her youth she enjoyed being outdoors, family picnics in Waterton and getting into mischief on the farm. After attending Parkview school for her elementary education, she graduated from high school in Pincher Creek. Anna then ventured to Cranbrook, B.C. where she completed training as a registered nurse. Anna’s nursing career included stints in Prince Rupert, Hawaii, Calgary and Fort Macleod where she worked as a registered nurse for more than 40 years.
With her sons, Anna was involved with the Boy Scouts and led the Fort Macleod Cub pack for a number of years. She really enjoyed all the “boys” over the years and always looked forward to the annual camp at Camp Impeesa.
Anna loved to hike in the mountains as well as walk in the river valley in Fort Macleod. She had a great interest in local flora and fauna and enjoyed identifying, photographing and drawing wildflowers and birds. Anna was a quiet person who loved her family and friends. Anna greatly appreciated all the friends and neighbours whose help enabled her to live independently during her last years.
A family memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorial donations in Anna’s name may be made directly to the Anna Grier Memorial Bench Fund (c/o Fort Macleod CIBC, Box 580, Fort Macleod, T0L 0Z0), for placement in the Fort Macleod Wilderness Park.
