Fort Macleod residents and visitors can enjoy an old-fashioned barn dance every summer at Windy Rafters Barn Dance.
Just 10 minutes east of Fort Macleod off Highway 3, Windy Rafters hosts a dinner and dance the second and fourth Saturday of every month from June to September.
People are invited to enjoy the food, music, atmosphere and memorabilia of country life in the early 1900s in an alcohol-free setting.
You’ll get to try a variety of dances including the two-step, waltz, polka, line-dance, jive, old-time waltz, schottische, virginia reel, cha cha, and even the bunny-hop and macarena.
Dinner is served at 6:30 p.m., followed by dancing at 8 p.m. Dinner reservations must by made by Thursday at 403-553-2130.
Dances are scheduled for June 25, July 9, July 23, Aug. 13, Aug. 27, Sept. 10 and Sept. 24.
Windy Rafters is also the site of special events, including a community garage sale and craft sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, July 16 and a Grand Ol’ Opry-style show, featuring performances by southern Alberta musicians at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 16.
