Flyers top perfect season with playoff championship

The F.P. Walshe Flyers completed an unbeaten Westwinds Volleyball League season Saturday in Pincher Creek.
The Flyers sailed through the league playoff tournament to improve their 2011 record to 30-0 while claiming the playoff title.
For Grade 12 veterans John Woynarowsky, Brayden Van Driesten, Austin Hurlburt, Logan Gregory, Brad Burrows, Colton Prete and Nathan Orr, it was the third consecutive Westwinds season in which the Flyers went undefeated.
The junior varsity Flyers also went undefeated this season, winning the league championship.
The Flyers opened the Westwinds playoff tournament facing Livingstone Sabres from Lundbreck in the semifinals.
The Flyers beat the Sabres three straight, 25-12, 25-10 and 25-14.
That win put the Flyers into the playoff tournament final against St. Mike’s Dragons.
The Flyers tamed the Dragons in three straight, winning 25-17, 25-12 and 25-14.
John Woynarowsky of the Flyers was named the Westwinds league’s most valuable player.
Brad Burrows and Brayden Van Driesten were named all-stars.
Other Flyers who received all-star nominations were Austin Hurlburt, Logan Gregory and Colton Prete.
