Jones, Shirley La Dean

Shirley La Dean Jones, 81 years old, residing in Fort Macleod, slipped away into the arms of the Lord in the early hours of Monday, March 14, 2011, while at Extendicare in Fort Macleod.
Born of goodly parents, Stanley and Gladys, on Nov. 15, 1929 in Raymond, Shirley lived a life full of learning, vibrant with her faith in Jesus Christ, her love for her children, family and ongoing interest in the arts.
Shirley worked in the insurance industry for many years. Shirley loved to dance, and was ever refining her skills in painting, culinary arts, commercial and international cooking and outstanding cake-decorating skills.
Shirley attained a teacher’s degree in ceramics which she taught to many, and later particularly excelled at the refined and delicate workings of porcelain. She won many awards and was featured in a number of publications for her exquisite works of art.
The third child of a family of 12, Shirley grew up in southern Alberta and moved to Calgary with her family at the age of 17.
Her joy was in her six children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Shirley valiantly trusted in the Lord in the loss of her five eldest children, Debra Ann (1979), Rodney Craig (1971), Richard Elwin (1990), Randall Eugene (1979), Cindy La Dean (2007) and was predeceased by three siblings, Priscilla, Leroy and Darline.
Shirley is survived by her youngest son, Alexander Dean Kottlar of B.C.; 10 grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; her siblings, Lois (Don) Kline, Marlene (George) Smith, Robert (Carol), Carol (Wayne) Orr, Gail, Sandra, Judy (Wayne) Torrie and Melvin (Carol Ann); and her sister-in-law Maisie Jones.
A visitation was held at 12 noon on Saturday, March 19, 2010, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 643 20th St., Fort Macleod, followed by the funeral service at 1 p.m. Interment followed in Orton Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made in Shirley’s memory to the Canadian Cancer Society, 317 10th St. S., Lethbridge, T1J 2M7.
