Macleod Mustangs are regular season champs

Fort Macleod Mustangs are the Ranchland Hockey League regular season champions.
The Mustangs won two weekend games to finish with 38 points, six more than the Brooks Black Hawks.
It was a stunning turn-around for the Mustangs, who last year did not win a game and finished out of the playoffs.
The Mustangs went 19-1 with a mix of long-time veterans such as Kevin Olson, Andy MacIntyre, Sam Webber, Cody Hall, Brendan Bobby and young players such as Tyce Gallamore, Cole Matson, Hayden Shackel and Tyler Bilodeau.
Recent additions Greg Schimanski, Jadon Porterfield, Tanner Benns, Ryan Chaben and Michael Fruman further bolstered a strong line-up.
By virtue of their first-place finishes in their respective divisions the Mustangs and Black Hawks earn a bye in the first round of playoffs.

In one quarterfinal series the Lomond Lakers will battle Kainai Chiefs , while in the other Peigan Cowboys take onNanton Palominos.

A showdown Saturday night between the league’s top two teams proved to be everything a hockey fan could expect.
Kevin Olson’s goal with five minutes left in the third period lifted the host Mustangs to a 3-2 decision and ensured themselves of the regular season title.
The game was fast-paced and hard-hitting, with goalies Lincoln Carriere of the Mustangs and Mike Houde of the Black Hawks tested time and again.
The Mustangs took a 1-0 led when Tyce Gallamore scored the only goal of the first period, with Darin Kay assisting.
Brooks battled back with a pair of goals in the second by Brendyn Lanz and Allan Enns to take a 2-1 lead.
Fort Macleod evened the score with 1:35 left in the period when Greg Schimanski scored, unassisted, on the powerplay.

The teams were scoreless through the third period until Andy MacIntyre and Tanner Benns combined to set up Kevin Olson for the winner.

Cody Hall posted a shutout and Tyce Gallamore had four goals and two assists as the Mustangs closed out the regular season Sunday with a 10-0 win over host Blood Tribe Warriors.
Fort Macleod scored five times in the first period and four times in the second to settle this game early.
Jadon Porterfield had a goal and four assists for the Mustangs, Hayden Shackel had two goals and an assist and Michael Fruman also scored twice.
Justin Donahue had a goal and an assist, Tyler Bilodeau and Shae Ouellette each had two assists and Tanner Benns, Tyson Thompson, Sam Webber, Kevin Olson and Brendan Bobby each had one.
