Fort Macleod council approves auto slalom racing at airport

Auto racing enthusiasts will get their motors running April 20-21 at Fort Macleod Aerodrome.
Town council last week approved six scheduled events from April to October for the Southern Alberta Solosport Club of Calgary.
The dates are April 20-21, May 4-5, May 18-19, July 27-28, Aug. 2-4 and Oct. 5-6.
In auto slalom cars race individually down a track and are timed for performance.
A slalom-like course is laid out on the airport runway that the driver has to negotiate while trying to achieve the best time.
The recommendation to approve the 2013 schedule came from the March 18 meeting of council’s finance committee.
The Town of Fort Macleod will charge the club $450 a day to use the runway.
