Junior varsity Flyers win Vulcan tournament title

F.P. Walshe Flyers reached the pinnacle Saturday of a junior varsity boys volleyball tournament at Vulcan.
The Flyers caged Immanuel Christian Eagles in the finals to win the championship.
The junior varsity Flyers are Ty Odney, Shody Perry, Oakley Bond, Rylan Clarke, Conlon Donahue, Aidan Kidd, Trent Ducharme, Landon Koch, Roland Tomter, Blake Hamilton and Avery Van Driesten.
Eagle Butte Talons grounded the Flyers 25-23 and 25-23 on Friday in the opening match of the tournament.
F.P. Walshe turned things around in the next match, defeating Senator Gershaw Gators from Bow Island 25-13 and 25-17.
The Flyers finished the round-robin by sweeping Strathcona-Tweedsmuir Spartans from Okotoks 25-22 and 25-18.
Their 4-2 record put the Flyers second in their pool behind Eagle Butte, with both teams advancing to the championship pool.
Immanuel Christian Eagles and host County Central Hawks advanced to the championship round from the other pool.
The Flyers met County Central Hawks in the first match of the playoffs and beat the Hawks 25-12 and 25-20.
In their next match the Flyers earned a split against Eagle Butte.
The Talons won the first set 25-20 but F.P. Walshe fought back to win the second set 25-17.
Their third match was another hard-fought battle as the Flyers lost the first set to Immanuel Christian 25-23 but won the second 25-55.
Their 4-2 record in the championship advanced the Flyers to the finals where they met Immanuel Christian Eagles, who finished second.
The Eagles opened the championship match with a 25-23 win in the first set.
The Flyers recovered from that setback to win the second set 25-19, and then claimed the title with a 15-6 win in the third set.
