Fort Macleod Mavericks won their second straight tournament title Sunday, beating Springbank Blitz in the final.
The Mavericks hosted this tournament and continued the success they enjoyed two weeks ago when they won an outdoor tournament at Red Deer.
Eight teams took part in the three-day tournament, with Fort Macleod, Calgary South Side, Springbank Blitz and Claresholm thunder in Pool A.
Edmonton, St. Alberta. Springbank Battalion and Calgary West made up Pool B for the round-robin portion of the tournament.
Mavericks 6 Thunder 6
Claresholm Thunder rumbled for two late goals Friday to steal a 6-6 tie with the Mavericks to open the tournament.
After Fort Macleod scored two minutes into the game Claresholm popped three consecutive goals to take a 3-1 lead into the break.
The Mavericks fought back to tie the game 4-4 in the second period, and then scored twice in the first two minutes of the third to lead 6-4.
Claresholm pulled to within a goal with eight minutes to play and then tied it 6-6 with 3:22 on the clock.
Ryan (Cookie) Cook had a hat trick for the Mavericks and Sheh Gallamore had two goals and an assist.
Kirby Warrior scored the other Fort Macleod goal. Chanse Ballas and Riley Vanee each had two assists and Wilfred North Peigan, Jordan North Peigan and Marvin North Peigan each had one.
Donovan Flobert was between the pipes for Fort Macleod.
Mavericks 16 Blitz 0
Blitz was an appropriate name for the Springbank team because that’s what happened to them Saturday.
The Mavericks scored 10 goals in the third period as they blanked Springbank Blitz 16-0.
Bantam affiliate goalie Cole Nathe earned the shutout as he held Springbank’s shooters at bay.
Gallamore had his hand in 10 Fort Macleod goals, scoring eight and drawing assists on two others.
Ballas scored three times and set up two others, Cook and Wilfred North Peigan each had two goals and an assist, and Tyrus White Cow had a goal and an assist.
Eric Maskowitz and Marvin North Peigan each assisted on three Fort Macleod goals and Warrior, Vanee, Nick Maskowitz, Colten Holtz and Matthew Warren each had one helper.
Mavericks 14 Calgary 1
The Mavericks rolled to an impressive 14-1 win Sunday morning against Calgary South Side.
Fort Macleod took a 5-0 lead in the first period and stretched it to 11-0 before Calgary got its only goal past Jonathan Silva in the third period.
Brady Matson scored five times for Fort Macleod to lead the attack.
Gallamore had four goals, Cook recorded a hat trick, Ballas had a goal and two assists and Warrior also scored.
Holtz and Wilfred North Peigan each had three assists, goalie Jonathan Silva, Vanee, Nick Maskowitz and White Cow had two apiece and Eric Maskowitz had one.
Mavericks 7 Battalion 3
The Mavericks and Springbank Battalion faced off in Sunday in the championship game.
The Mavericks built a 3-2 lead in the first period and maintained that one-goal margin after 40 minutes, leading 4-3.
Fort Macleod scored goals less than a minute apart mid way through the third period and added one more with 3:39 to play to clinch a 7-3 win and the tournament title.
White Cow had two goals for the Mavericks and Ballas, Matson and Gallamore each had a goal and two assists.
Marvin North Peigan had a goal and an assist and Cook also scored.
Flobert was in net for the win.
