Darren Michael Packham of Claresholm, beloved son of Elba and Irwin Packham, passed away peacefully after many years of illness on Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2012, at the age of 52 years.
Besides his parents, Darren is survived by two sisters, Joanne (Dr. Gordon Huff) and Jody (Grant Dugan); two brothers, Scot (Coreen Packham) and Gary; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and their families.
Darren was predeceased by his grandparents Fred and May Huddlestun and Frank and Kathleen Packham.
Darren was born in Pincher Creek on Nov. 14, 1960. He grew up in Fort Macleod and spent a number of years working construction in Fort Macleod and later while living in Edmonton.
In 1981, while living in High Level, Darren was diagnosed with schizophrenia. In spite of this challenge, he continued to work for his parents at their True Value Hardware Store where he enjoyed talking with and helping customers. His great sense of humor and kindness shown to others was appreciated by both family and friends.
For the past few years Darren lived at the Claresholm Care Centre where he made friends easily. He will be fondly remembered and dearly missed by his parents, brothers, sisters and their families. As one of Darren’s friends said, “Darren loved people and people loved Darren.”
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., on Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2013, at Eden’s Funeral Home, 2424 Fifth Ave., Fort Macleod, with Major Jack Cullen officiating.
