It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Patricia Dianne Schieman of Fort Macleod on Friday, Sept. 6, 2013, at the age of 59.
Pat was born in Brantford, Ont. on Dec. 29, 1953.
Pat was predeceased by her father, Dan Schieman. She is lovingly remembered by her mother, Reggie Schieman; brothers Dan (Wendy) and John (Janette); nephews Nathan and Adam; her aunt Mary Kristof and family all residing in Ontario; her close cousin Carolyn (David) of Edmonton; as well as many other family in Ontario and the United States.
Pat’s passion for reading and literacy were reflected in her education, employment and volunteerism. She held a Master of Library Science degree from the University of Western Ontario and was the librarian at F.P. Walshe high school in Fort Macleod. At the time of her death she was manager of information services at Lethbridge Public Library.
Pat’s love of history and tradition found a most worthy outlet in her many years of volunteerism with the Fort Macleod Historical Association and Fort Museum.
What was most remarkable about Pat was her love of students and her endless patience when they misinterpreted “library time” as “play time.” Pat spent countless hours mentoring students about the freedom and empowerment that comes from learning especially reading.
Pat was instrumental in teaching a generation of students about yearbook and because of those efforts their memories live on.
A memorial service will be held at 3:30 p.m., on Saturday, Sept. 28, 2013, Eden’s Funeral Home, 2424 Fifth Ave., Fort Macleod, with Rev. Eras Van Zyl officiating.
Flowers are gratefully declined. Memorial donations may be made in Pat’s memory to the Lethbridge Humane Society, P.O. Box 783, Lethbridge, T1J 3Z6 in loving recognition of her life-long devotion to cats and kittens.
