It is with deepest sadness the family of Peter John Beeson announces his passing on Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2014, at the age of 83 in Fort Macleod.
Peter is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Bernice; and his six children Marie, John, Debbie (Doug), George, Peter and Yvonne.
Papa shared many laughs with his grandchildren Graeme, Alix, Michael, Jennifer, Brooke, Sarah, Blaine, Daniel and Brittany as well as his great grandchildren Ana, Mikayla, Grace, Lily, Evan, Kate, Lauren and Jordan.
Peter also leaves behind his brother Norman (Kay); sister Anna (Muckie); sister-in-law Sadie; brother-in-law Gerald; and many nieces and nephews.
Peter was predeceased by his parents Arthur and Margaret; his brothers Dan, Hughie and Malcom; and his sister Jessie.
Peter, who was born April 6, 1930 in Blues Mills, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, left home at the age of 19 to serve in the Canadian Army from Feb. 7, 1949 to June 2, 1979.
Starting a second career, he then moved to Fort Macleod to work with the Alberta Transportation Department as foreman of the paint crew until retiring in 1992.
Peter was an active life member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 46 where he volunteered and held many executive positions over the past 35 years. Because of his compassionate nature, Peter spent many years mentoring the cadets and visiting comrades in need.
During his military service, Peter served throughout the world and received many commendations such as the Korean Medal, United Nations Service Medal, and Canadian Forces Medals along with many military service recognition awards.
Over the years, Peter, wearing his trademark overalls, enjoyed the times he spent with family and friends camping at The Buzzard Inn, travelling south to California, Arizona and Mexico during the winters, fishing, bargain shopping at garage sales and swap meets, and attending to many creative projects in his “garage.”
He enjoyed meeting friends while volunteering at the Fort Macleod Welcome Mat. And of course, Peter enjoyed a good glass of scotch.
Peter will be sadly missed by his family, friends and all who knew him.
