The MD of Willow Creek has offered to sell the fire hall at Moon River Estates to the hamlet’s residents’ association to be used as a community hall.
Council decided Wednesday to sell the hall to the residents’ association for $10 subject to advertising and if they bring it up to code.
If, in the future, the residents’ association no longer wants the hall, the MD of Willow Creek can buy it back for the amount the residents’ association put in to upgrade it.
The discussion began with a report from chief administrative officer Cynthia Vizzutti, who said Superior Safety Codes had assessed the hall and estimated it would take between $5,000 and $7,000 to upgrade the fire hall to be used as a public building.
That would bring it up to proper fire and building codes.
If council wants to dispose of he hall below market value though, it has to be advertised, Vizzutti said.
The MD of Willow Creek only owns one other hall, the one at Clear Lake east of Stavely.
Coun. Maryanne Sandberg suggested that, since Moon River Estates lost its fire department, it would be a good gesture to retrofit the fire hall and give it to the residents’ association.
After all, Sandberg said, council spent much more on Blunden Hall in Granum before giving it back to the Town of Granum for $1.
Council then agreed to offer the fire hall to the residents’ association for $10 to use as a community hall if they bring it up to code.
