With sorrow we announce that our dear mother, Oma and great Oma, Jantje (Jenny) Van Hierden (Van Esveld), has exchanged time for eternity at the Claresholm General Hospital at the age of 82 years.
The wife of late husband Hendrik (Hank) Van Hierden, Jenny is survived by her seven children Gerrit (Janet), Ria (Ray) Vanee, Nancy (Walter) Vanden Broek, Henry (Shannon), Conrad (Rhonda), Harvey (Bernita), Jenny (Jake) Boot and son-in-law Frans (Sieneke) Feyter and daughter-in-law Tracey Van Hierden. She will be missed by her 39 grandchildren and 63 great-grandchildren.
Jenny is also survived by one sister, Riek Verburg of Holland; sisters-in-law Berta Van Esveld, Heintje Van Hierden, Henny Van Ee, all in Holland; and brothers-in-law Bill Van Santen of Fort Macleod and Aart VandeKieft of Holland.
Jenny was predeceased by her husband Hank (2000), daughter Stiena Feyter (2012), son Rick (1996), grandchildren Gerrit (2001), Rebecca (2004) and Randy (2004).
Jantje was born in Barneveld District, Holland on Nov. 1, 1931. She and Hank were married Dec. 5, 1952. They immigrated to Canada in 1954 and settled in Fort Macleod.
They first lived at the Wakelin farm, purchased the Sheer dairy where they raised their family, then moved to Hill and Dale Ranch, and later settled in Fort Macleod where she resided until her passing.
Mom was active in her church community and kept busy with her children and grandchildren. Her house was always open for all of us and she cherished family gatherings and celebrations.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 30, 2014, at the Netherland Reformed Church, 2608 Seventh Ave., Fort Macleod, with Rev. H. den Hollander officiating.
Condolences were held between 7-8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 29, 2014, at Eden’s Funeral Home, 2424 Fifth Ave. Fort Macleod.
There will also be an opportunity to join the family for a light lunch at 1 p.m. Wednesday, following the burial, at the Fort Macleod and District Community Hall.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in Jenny’s name to the A-T Children’s Project, P.O. Box 1958, Fort Macleod, T0L 0Z0 or the Canadian Diabetes Association.
