Albert, Germaine Celina (nee Ferdais)

Germaine Celina Albert (nee Ferdais) of Fort Macleod, formerly of Taber, passed away on Wednesday, March 11, 2015, at the age of 97 years.
The funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Augustine’s Catholic Church, 5009 – 48th Ave., Taber on Saturday, April 11, 2015, at 10 a.m. Burial to follow at the Union Cemetery, Fort Macleod, at 12:30 p.m. Condolences may be forwarded by visiting www.southlandfuneral.com.
Gerry is survived by her brothers Wilfrid (Susan) Ferdais of High River and Joseph Ferdais of Elnora as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Although Gerry never had any children of her own, she sponsored numerous foster children in poverty stricken countries for over 50 years.
Gerry was predeceased by her parents Joseph and Emma Ferdais; five sisters and brothers-in-law, Theresa (Jim) Bell, Marion (Gary) Barten, Agnes (Bob) Rose, Alphonsine “Al” (Hugh) Mackintosh and Rose (Bill Currie and John Alsgard); brothers Eugene and Armand Ferdais.
Gerry was born at home on the Joseph and Emma Ferdais farm, south of Fort Macleod in December 1917. She was educated in the Waterton District School and later at the Macleod School.
As a young adult Gerry did domestic work on several farms in the Fort Macleod and Granum areas, followed by three enjoyable years serving food to young airforce trainees at the Macleod air training base canteen during World War Two.
Gerry later lived in Pincher Creek and worked many years in the food services industry. In the mid 1950s, Gerry went to Fort Vermilion in northern Alberta where she took out a farm homestead. In the late 1950s Gerry trained and became a nursing aide (LPN). She worked her entire nursing career at the Taber General Hospital, mainly in the maternity ward. After her retirement she spent much of her time travelling to many places she had always wanted to see. Gerry was an active member of the CWL for 50 years.
