STARS volleyball tournament attracts record number of teams

A record 35 teams competed in three divisions in this year’s 14th annual STARS Co-ed Volleyball Tournament held April 8-10.
There were 17 teams competing in the competitive division, eight teams in the intermediate division and 10 teams in the recreational division.
The competition was intense in all divisions with a lot of close matches as teams pushed to make the playoffs.
The Has-Beens and The Never Was (Steve Carston) defeated Dirty Mitch and the Boys (Tyson Hislop) in an exciting straight set final in the competitive division. The scores were 25-18 and 26-24.
Third place in the competitive division was won by Block Party (Tom Lyon) as they defeated Abusement Park (Brayden Van Driesten) in straight sets by scores of 25-23 and 25-22.
Bumpin’ Uglies (Zach Trotter) defeated Ernie Ling’s team in straight sets in the intermediate division final. The scores were 25-22 and 25-15.
Third place in the intermediate division was won by Turkey Club (Tyler Ogle) in straight sets over Brad Burrows’ team by scores of 25-21 and 28-26.
Barry Campbell’s team won the recreational division in an exciting three-set match over the Hit Eatin’ Grinners (Cara Pawlick). The scores were 23-25, 25-19 and 16-14.
Third place in the recreational went to Mike Bourassa’s team as they defeated Setsy (Kayley Leeds) in straight sets. The scores were 26-24 and 25-14.
