F.P. Walshe athletes receive Paskal Award

Ben Craig and Tiegan Trotter received the Danny Paskal Memorial Award as the top senior high athletes at F.P. Walshe school

Ben Craig and Tiegan Trotter were honoured last week as the top senior high athletes at F.P. Walshe school.
The students received the Danny Paskal Memorial Award at Blue and White Night on June 12.
The Danny Paskal Memorial Award presented each year to athletes who exemplify the spirit of an F.P. Walshe school student who 22 years ago was killed in a car crash.
“The award is presented each year to students who best exemplify the spirit of Danny Paskal,” presenter Chris Baxter said. “Each recipient has a true love of sports; shows a deep desire to improve, learn new skills and strive to reach the highest level of competency possible.”
The award recipients also demonstrate a healthy lifestyle, befitting an athlete, and have been recognized by outside sources for high achievement such as all-stars, representative, university or college teams, provincial teams or national team programs.
Ben played rugby and was a Southern Alberta High School Rugby League all-star in his Grade 12 year.
Ben also played on the boys basketball team before it folded this season, and through his high school career played volleyball.
Teigan is a Grade 11 student who played volleyball, basketball and rugby.
Trotter was a Southern Alberta High School Rugby League all-star this past season, and helped the Flyers win the bronze medal at the provincial tournament earlier this month.
Baxter said both Ben and Tiegan helped out at the school by officiating junior high sports and scorekeeping.
“They were wonderful representatives of the youth at F.P. Walshe,” Baxter added.
