Fort Macleod Health Foundation plans fund-raiser

The Fort Macleod and District Health Foundation continues its drive this year to buy a new van.
The van will serve residents of the Special Development Unit at Fort Macleod Health Centre, as well as other community groups.
“I think it will make a difference for people in our community,” foundation chair Denise Joel said.
The new van will replace one bought in 1999 that is showing its age after nearly two decades of use.
The van, which will seat 10 people including five wheelchairs, will be used by residents of the special development unit for medical appointments, day trips and social events.
Other community groups will be able to rent the van for out-of-town trips.
The new van will cost about $100,000.
The health foundation is also fund-raising for the purchase of three monitors for the health centre.
“There are always requests coming in,” Joel noted. “We are really appreciative of people supporting the foundation.”
The foundation will hold its annual “Close to Your Heart” dinner, dance and auction on Saturday, Feb. 10 at the Fort Macleod and District Community Hall.
Doors open at 6 p.m. with a hot buffet dinner at 7 p.m., a live auction at 8 p.m. and a dance at 9 p.m.
Two hundred tickets will be sold for the “Close to Your Heart” fund-raiser.
“We’re hoping to sell out,” Joel said. “The event is still popular.”
Dinner will be catered by Karoll’s Catering, which provides a full service event including music by DJ Tizio.
The company will handle the event from set-up to clean-up, significantly lightening the load for the foundation’s volunteer base.
Radio personality Brooksie returns as the master of ceremonies for “Close to Your Heart.”
Ryan Konynenbeldt also returns as auctioneer for the live auction.
A silent auction will also take place to boost the foundation’s fund-raising.
Donations for the live and silent auctions are coming in, with a deadline of Feb. 6 for anyone wanting their live auction donation listed on the program.
“We’re already getting a pretty good variety of things,” Joel said.
