Angie O’Connor’s random act of kindness Nov. 27 had an added benefit for the Empress Theatre Society.
The Community Foundation of Lethbridge and Southwestern Alberta awarded a $500 grant to the Empress Theatre Society on Random Act of Kindness Day.
O’Connor bought a coffee gift card at Cafe Orange and asked owner Heleen Fieret to give out free coffees on Random Act of Kindness Day.
O’Connor shared her good deed on social media with the hashtag #RAKDayCFLSA and was chosen by the foundation for a $500 grant to the charity of her choice — the Empress Theatre.
“I believe the Empress Theatre is a gem in our community.” O’Connor said. “I appreciate the work the volunteer board and Margaret Ann does to provide our rural community with access to a variety of entertainment at affordable prices.
O’Connor called opportunities offered by the Empress such as performances by Juno Award-nominated musicians, new movies, local talent shows and community theatre “a gift.”
“Well, all I can say on behalf of the Empress is thank you, thank you, Angie O’Connor for this wonderful gift,” Empress Theatre Society president Laura Glover said. “Your continuing support of the arts in Fort Macleod is inspiring and deeply appreciated.”
