Empress to hold auditions for spring musical

Fort Macleod and district residents have another chance this spring to star on the Empress Theatre stage.
Auditions start this week for the musical Matilda, this year’s community theatre offering by the Empress Theatre Society.
Auditions are set for 1-5 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 9.
Written by Roald Dahl, Matilda is the story of a young genius named Matilda, who uses telekinesis to deal with her parents, who do not value education, and Agatha Trunchbull, the oppressive principal of Crunchem Hall Elementary School.
Matilda was a 1996 film directed by Danny DeVito and starred Mara Wilson, DeVito, Rhea Perlman, Embeth Davidtz and Pam Ferris.
The Empress Theatre Society’s production of Matilda has roles for male and female adults aged 18 to 50 years and children aged nine to 15 years.
Anyone interested in auditioning should call the Empress at 403-553-4404 to book a 15-minute spot.
Those who plan to audition are to come prepared with one song from a musical theatre production of their choice, either sheet music or karaoke on a USB or phone.
Rehearsals for Matilda will be from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays and from 12 noon to 3 p.m. on Saturdays.
Performances of Matilda are set for May 30, May 31, June 1, June 5, June 6, June 7 and June 8.
