Flyers win junior high volleyball tournament

The F.P. Walshe Flyers were dominant in a weekend junior high B boys volleyball tournament.
The Flyers placed first in round-robin and went on to win the championship of the tournament played at W.A. Day school.
The Flyers are Logan Van Herk, Ethan Baxter, Dylan Feyter, Adam Bassett, Liam Beer, Rylan Baxter, AJ Poytress and David Hearn. Coach is Blair Yanke.
F.P. Walshe opened the tournament Friday afternoon against TMS from the Blood Reserve.
The Flyers swept the match 25-12 and 25-15.
The Flyers followed that match Friday evening with a sweep of Noble Central Blades.
The Flyers won the first set 25-18 and took the second set 25-21.
In the final round-robin match on Friday night the Flyers battled to a hard-fought split with Raymond Comets.
The Flyers won the first set 25-22 but the Comets rallied to earn a split with a 25-22 decision in the second set.
The Flyers placed first in round-robin with five wins and one loss, followed by Raymond (4-2), Noble Central (2-4) and TMS (1-5).
Their first-place finish put the Flyers into a semifinal match first thing Saturday morning against TMS.
F.P. Walshe once again swept TMS to advance to the tournament championship.
In the other semifinal match Raymond knocked off Noble Central.
In the championship match Saturday morning the Flyers soared past the Comets to win the championship of their own tournament.
Noble Central beat TMS to claim third place.
