Past, present provincial hosts to meet in exhibition game

The last Fort Macleod Minor Hockey team to host provincials has been challenged to play the Midget Mavericks.
The Mavericks are organizing the exhibition game with the 1996 Atom Hawks alumni as a fund-raiser for the Midget D provincial tournament they will host March 22-24.
The exhibition game gets under way at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 28 at the Fort Macleod and District Sports Centre.
The game will also feature a skills competition.
The 1996 Atom Hawks line-up included Tyler Brown, Adam Driscoll, Matt James, Neil James, Carl Dusty Lemke, Andrew Murphy, Ben Paskal, Daniel Poytress, Matt Schwindt, Brad Skog, Brian Tolsma, Nick Tillsley, Sam Val-Zehan, Derek Lucksinger and Wace Wells.
Coaches were Dwayne Skog, Kim Tillsley and Peter Schwindt.
The 2019 Midget Mavericks are Brody Zmurchyk, Joseph Yellow Face, Calim Yellow Face, Kyle Vogelaar, Nelz Vance, Tristan Martin, Ethan Many Bears, Brenndon Mackin, Jesse Lyke, Haze Gillingham, Gavin Crow Show, Brandon Creighton, Greg Burrows, Jack Austin Jaylen Martineau and Mason Brussee.
Head coach is Lindsey Rivet and assistants are Chaz Vance, Dirk Gilingham, Trevor Curran and Cam Burrows.
Admission is $5 per person or $20 for a family.
Tickets for the progressive 50-50 draw on March 23 will be sold at the game.
The Hawks in 1996 hosted the Atom B provincial tournament, which attracted teams from Lac La Biche, High Prairie, Coronation, Three Hills, Okotoks, Spruce Grove and Sylvan Lake.
The Fort Macleod team lost 9-0 to Lac La Biche, 5-1 to Sylvan Lake and 16-2 to Three Hills.
Lac La Biche went on to win the tournament, beating Sylvan Lake 4-2 in the final game.
