Windy Rafters takes part Saturday in Open Farm Days

People can get a taste of life on the farm Saturday, Aug. 17.
Windy Rafters Barn east of Fort Macleod has a day of activities planned for 2019 Alberta Open Farm Days.
Barn tours, hay wagon rides, horseshoe games, and rope-making demonstrations are part of the fun.
Alberta Open Farm Days is a collaborative, province-wide event that gives people an opportunity to experience the farm and understand where their food comes from.
Open Farm Days has taken place in Canada for more than 10 years, starting in the Maritimes and moving West.
This year marks the seventh annual Alberta Open Farm Days.
Windy Rafters is on Range Road 250, 13 kilometres east of Fort Macleod just off Highway 3.
People can drive or take a free shuttle from Fort Macleod to Windy Rafters compliments of Scougall Motors.
The following is a schedule for Open Farm Days at Windy Rafters on Saturday, Aug. 17:
• 8:45 a.m. — Shuttle leaves Scougall Motors.
• 9 a.m. — Historic work horse barn and hay wagon tour.
• 10 a.m. — Orrs’ homestead cabin replica and historic Orton school tour.
10 a.m. — Rope-making demonstration.
• 11:15 a.m. — Shuttle returns to Scougall Motors.
• 10:45 a.m. — Shuttle leaves Scougall Motors.
• 11 a.m. — Historic work horse barn and hay wagon tour.
• 12 noon — Orrs’ homestead cabin replica and historic Orton school tour.
12:45 p.m. –Farm lunch concession featuring barbecued beef-on-a-bun, green salad, corn on the cob, beverage and ice cream.
• 1:45 p.m. — Shuttle returns to Scougall Motors.
• 1:15 p.m. — Shuttle leaves Scougall Motors.
• 1:30 p.m. — Historic work horse barn and hay wagon tour.
• 2:30 p.m. — Orrs’ homestead cabin replica and historic Orton school tour.
• 2:30 p.m. –Horseshoes instruction and game.
• 3:45 p.m. — Shuttle returns to Scougall Motors.
• 3:15 p.m. — Shuttle leaves Scougall Motors.
• 3:30 p.m. — Historic work horse barn and hay wagon tour.
• 4:30 p.m. — Orrs’ homestead cabin replica and historic Orton school tour.
• 4:30 p.m. — Simulated cow-milking experience.
• 5:30 p.m. –Farm lunch concession featuring barbecued beef-on-a-bun, green salad, corn on the cob, beverage and ice cream.
• 6:30 p.m. — Shuttle returns to Scougall Motors.
• 6 p.m. — Shuttle leaves Scougall Motors.
• 6:15 p.m. — Historic work horse barn and hay wagon tour.
• 7:15 p.m. — Orrs’ homestead cabin replica and historic Orton school tour.
• 8-9 p.m. — Western line dancing instruction and barn dance.
• 9 p.m. — Shuttle returns to Scougall Motors.
Harvest combine machine rides are available for $2.
Other participants in southwestern Alberta include the Kootenai Brown Pioneer Village at Pincher Creek and the Farming Smarter Research Farm and Btoxburn Farms Vegetables and Cafe at Lethbridge.
