David John Marles B.Ed., M.Ed.— 1947 - 2007

   David John Marles B.Ed., M.Ed., born in Macleod on May 2, 1947, died in Mission, B.C. on May 23, 2007.
   David is survived by his parents John and Ruby Marles; his children Andrew and Jennifer; his sisters Christine, Cynthia and Candace; and his former wife Corrie.
   John Marles is a former principal of Macleod high school.
   David received his early education at Macleod school and had many fond memories of Fort Macleod.
   He went to university in Edmonton and Calgary and majored in computer science for his Masters of Education.
   David taught in Ranfurly, Edmonton, Calgary and Comox, B.C. He was expert in the educational applications of computers, both software and hardware, and in wireless technology. He was vice-president of Tranzeo Wireless Company.
   David became a ham operator at age 16 and built his first transmitter from war surplus junk. He earned a certificate for communicating with 100 different countries in the first year.
   David played trumpet in the Warriors Sea Cadet band, qualified as a young soldier at the Wainwright army base, and joined the reserve army. In 1969 he was promoted to the rank of lieutenant.
   David was a keen camper, hiker and backpacker, and loved the mountains. His children and nieces and nephews share this love.
   He was an avid sailor and had a large sailboat with which he explored the west coast. He maintained close ties with extended family and friends. Because he was talented, warm and loving, David will not be forgotten.
