Lillian Rhea McLean passed away peacefully at
Fort Macleod on Monday, March, 26, 2007, at the age of 98 years.
Lillian was born March 23, 1909, in Arcola, Sask. and moved with
her parents, Will and Mary Andrews, to Fort Macleod on May 22, 1909.
Lillian was predeceased by her husband Andy on July 23, 1966.
She is survived by her son Graham (Gail) and two grandchildren,
Gregory and Cassandra of Edmonton.
Lillian was a faithful member of the Fort Macleod Trinity United
Church. She started playing the piano when she was nine years old and was
the church's organist for more than 70 years, playing for weddings, funerals
and many other related church functions. She was also organist for the
Eastern Star for many years.
Lillian attended Normal school in Calgary and taught school for
eight years at the school located south of Fort Macleod.
Lillian, along with Ann Craig and Marion Reach, formed a group to
assist the United Church Ladies Aid and called the group the Lewis Auxiliary
in memory of Rev. Lewis, who served as the Trinity United minister from
1918-'20. She served as president for many years.
Lillian was very involved in many community activities over the
years and her dedication to her church and community was recognized when she
was named Fort Macleod Citizen of the Year in 1980 by the Fort Macleod
Chamber of Commerce.
She enjoyed dancing and was an active Member of the Fort Macleod
Square Dance Club for many years. She was also a member of the Ladies'
Bridge Club. It was Lillian's love of music that prevailed and she played
every time she was asked because she believed that one should use the gift
they have been given. She said, on many occasions, that music had brought
everything to her life to the piano, dancing and endless hours of enjoyment.
Lillian moved into the Macleod Pioneer Lodge on June 16, 2000 and
on to Fort Macleod Extendicare on September 30, 2002. The family wishes to
thank the caring staff of Macleod Pioneer Lodge and Extendicare for their
patience and dedication during her stay.
Funeral service was held at Trinity United Church on Friday, March
30, 2007, at 11 a.m. with Rev. Eras Van Zyl officiating. Interment in Union
Cemetery. Eden's Funeral Home, Fort Macleod, in care of arrangements. |
