(Lewis) Alan Munro of Granum,
born Aug. 11, 1929 at Wheatcenter, Alta., passed away at the Foothills
Hospital, July 23, 2008, at the age of 78. He was predeceased by his
loving wife of 39 years Rose (Moss) in 1990, his mother Myrtle
(Thompson), his father Lewis and his brother-in-law Bernard Moss.
Allan will be deeply and sadly missed by his children Brenda (Jim)
Sanders of Claresholm, Donna (Gordon) Schwindt of Fort Macleod, Randy of
Calgary, Sharon Monical of Fort Macleod, Brad of Claresholm, Barry of
Granum, Janice of Lethbridge and Dallas of Edmonton. Also by his
grandchildren, Curtis, Jeff (Suzane) and Chris Schwindt, Darren
(Shannon) Sanders, Diana
Sanders, Beau and Dusty Monical and Nick and Greg Munro and eight great
grandchildren. |

Al also leaves to mourn his only sister Marie (Pete) Esau; sisters
and brothers-in-law, Ed and Berna Moss, Mary Lou Moss and Lyal and Berna
Shoemaker, plus many nieces, nephews and great friends.
Al started his career with the Wheat Pool in 1951 in Tilley, Alta.
and in October of 1957 he and Rose were transferred to Granum where he
retired in 1985. He also sold Co-operator insurance for many years and
continued that until the early 1990s.
Al and Rose and their children spent many great summers camping
with family and friends progressing from tent trailers (which he built
himself) to trailers and eventually motorhomes.
Al was a great sports enthusiast and spent many hours supporting
his children at their sports.
Al also participated, playing hockey with the Claresholm Clippers
and Fort Macleod Broncs for many years and also played baseball with the
Granum White Sox. He loved curling, fishing, trapshooting and doing
crossword puzzles. His great love was golfing and he golfed many courses
over the years with some awesome golf buddies.
Al was also very community-minded and was a long-time member of the
Granum Elks Club and of the Granum Fire Department. He also served as a town
councillor in Granum for nine years.
Al will be remembered by family members and friends for his
honesty, sense of humour, his smile, pleasant personality, his love of
teasing people and as “One of the nicest men they knew.”
