Alan Stewart Booth— 1926 - 2008
Alan Stewart Booth passed away suddenly and
unexpectedly in Fort Macleod on Tuesday, May 6, 2008. He was 81 years old.
Alan was born in Saskatoon, Sask. on Aug. 13, 1926, the son of
Reginald (Corinne) Booth. He is survived by a brother, Brian and a sister,
Barbara. He was predeceased by his oldest brother Jack.
Alan met and married Brigitte, his dear wife of 45 years, while he
was stationed with the Canadian Air Force with Four-Wing, at Baden-Baden,
Germany serving with NATO. At the same time he fell in love and adopted his
oldest daughter who is eternally grateful to have been blessed with such a
wonderful father.
Alan joined the Navy on Nov. 13, 1944 and was discharged on Nov.
16, 1945. He re-enlisted in the Navy on April 13, 1949. He remained in the
Navy until April 29, 1954 at which time he re-mustered into the Air Force.
Alan served in many locations through out Canada and Europe. Alan retired
from the Air Force on June 10, 1970.
After his retirement Alan and his family returned to Germany where
he was employed with Mercedes Benz. When he again retired in 1986, Alan,
Brigitte and their youngest son Roland moved back to Canada (Calgary). They
were re-united with their youngest daughter Edda in December of 1990. Alan
found employment with the Commissioners in Calgary until his next move to
Fort Macleod in 1997 where he and his wife bought and operated the Century
II Motel until 2006 when they finally retired for the last time. Dad’s
health had started to decline years earlier but he continued to work because
he considered it his duty to provide for his family. This was his way of
showing the great love he felt for all of us. Besides being a hard working
man Alan enjoyed reading history books and Reader’s Digest. He loved his
animals, watching old movies and collecting and building model cars, ships,
and planes. Visitors and family were always entertained with jokes and the
many stories of his life. Dad gave all of himself and was never heard asking
for anything. Alan’s only known wish was that after his death his body be
given to the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Calgary for medical
research, so it may be of value for the good of mankind.
Besides his loving wife, Dad will be missed by his sons Peter
(Manuela) of Germany, Roland (Julie) of Gainford, Alta., and his daughters
Ute (Mike) Brady of Scottsdale, Arizona, Heike (Frank) Delaney of Germany
and Edda (Dennis) Farris-Lagasse of Lethbridge.
He will also very much be missed by Dana Farris, Mike (Toni)
Plourde and numerous grandchildren.
Memorial services to be announced at a later date.
Donations may be made in Dad’s name to the Faculty of Medicine
Research at the University of Calgary.
