Robert Allan was born Oct. 9, 1941 in Fort
Macleod. He received all his schooling in Fort Macleod and when he was 17 he
went to work for the CIBC and was soon transferred to Warner and then
Calgary. He then joined the Treasury Branches working in Hanna, Wetaskiwin,
Mayerthorpe, Manning, High Prairie, Brooks and Granum.
It was during his stay in High Prairie that he met a young school
teacher from South Africa, and they were married on Sept. 3, 1967 in Fort
Macleod.
On Jan. 31, 1971 their daughter Glenda was born and on June 20,
1976 their son Vaughn was born.
Robert and Mona were able to enjoy their later years as they
travelled to different parts of the world, notable South Africa, Australia
and Europe. They drove through every state in the continental U.S., as well
as every province in Canada.
The past few years, they have been snowbirds and wintering in
Arizona, where they looked after a campground. The two of them have many
fond memories of the good times and good friends they were able to enjoy.
Robert was predeceased by his daughter Glenda in 1975 and his niece Barbara
in 1982, his mother Dorothy in 1995, and his father John in 2000. He is
survived by his wife Mona, son Vaughn (Heidi), brother Donald (Dorothy) and
sister Kathleen (Bill Deis).
He is also survived by Mona’s family, Isabelle (Eddie), Gabel
(Karen) and Sharon (John) and numerous nieces and nephews.
At Robert’s request there was no funeral. In lieu of flowers
donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society. |
