Mr. Lloyd Pinder, beloved
husband of the late Alice Pinder, passed away at Extendicare in Fort
Macleod on Saturday, Nov. 7, 2009.
Lloyd is survived by his children Barb Dick of Calgary, as well as
Dianne Coast and Don (Chris) Pinder of Fort Macleod; nine grandchildren;
seven great grandchildren; two brothers; two sisters; and numerous
nieces and nephews.
Lloyd was born on a farm near Granum on Feb. 8, 1917. In September
1924 the family moved to Fort Macleod, his home for the rest of his
life. The family of 12 ran a dairy business, thus Lloyd learned early
the value of hard work.
On Sept. 12, 1941 Lloyd married Alice Simonson. Throughout their 54
years of marriage they worked side-by-side, first owning and operating
the Macleod Dairy Farm, pasteurizing plant and home delivery. When they
sold the dairy business in 1951 they donated the plant building and land
to the Elks for their new Elks Hall. They continued farming until moving
into town in September 1961. Lloyd retired in February 1982. Lloyd will
be remembered for his cheerfulness, his willingness to give his all, and
his love of family. He took his children (and friends) and his
grandchildren (and friends) on many camping, fishing, hunting, and
vacation trips. Hours were spent in his beautiful flower and lush
vegetable garden. His delight of music and dancing took him to country
dances, wartime jitney dances, and square dances. In August of 2009 he
danced at his granddaughter’s wedding.
Lloyd was a long-time member of Trinity United Church, being a
trustee for many years. In 2009 the Elks recognized his 65 years of
service. After retiring Lloyd took up bike riding. People were always
commenting on how far from town they had spotted him! And he made these
trips profitable by collecting beverage containers from the roadside. In
2006 he reluctantly gave up bike riding due to his failing eyesight.
Another life-long love was playing cards at work during lunch break, at
neighbours’ homes and at family gatherings. In 1997 he joined the
Welcome Mat and the Legion where the Lloyd, George, Lil and Ruby team
challenged all.
Lloyd moved to Macleod Pioneer Lodge in 2003. He enjoyed
participating in all their events. You could find him by following the
sound of his laughter to where his foursome was playing cards or to the
veranda where they enjoyed the swing.
A private family service will be held at Union Cemetery. Memorial
donations in Lloyd’s name may be made directly to a charity of one’s
choice. |
