Alfred (Pat) Richard Schnarr,
born May 5, 1913, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 7, 2010, at Fort
Macleod Community Support Beds at the age of 97.
Pat is survived by his daughter Sandra Schnarr of Fort Macleod; his
son Brian Schnarr of Vauxhall; numerous nieces and nephews and a
sister-in-law Wilma Schnarr.
Pat was predeceased by his wife of 60 years, Jenny Schnarr (Barr);
his parents Alexandre (Sandy) and Clara (Dixon) Schnarr; brother
Clarence; and sister Katherin Schnarr.
Pat was born in Leavings (Granum) and spent the majority of his
life on the family ranch in the Olson Creek district until retiring to
Fort Macleod in 1972.
Pat was a great horse and cattleman and was always a farmer at
heart. He was always available to lend a helping hand when called upon
by neighbours and friends whether it was breaking horses, working cattle
or driving tractor. |

In 1924 Pat rode as a jockey in the Claresholm
Derby and won the coveted cup of which he was very proud.
Pat’s memory was sharp as a tack up to the end and he always had a
good sense of humour and a good story for anyone who would listen. We would
like to thank the staff at Macleod Pioneer Lodge for their care and
consideration shown to Pat during his stay there, as well as the staff at
Community Support Beds for Pat’s care the past two months. A memorial
service will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, May 12, 2010, at Christ Church
Anglican, 320 21st St., Fort Macleod, with Rev. Andrew Horne, officiating.
Memorial donations may be made in Pat’s memory to the Fort Macleod
Community Support Beds, P.O. Box 520, Fort Macleod, T0L 0Z0 or Macleod
