Anna (Annie) Hlibka passed
away during surgery at the Chinook Regional Hospital on Wednesday, Jan.
13, 2010, at the age of 88 years. Annie Paraniuk was born in Mamaiesti,
Romania on Oct. 19, 1921 and came to Aldersyde, Alta. as a new bride in
the fall of 1936, where her husband, George Hlibka, was employed by the
CPR.
In 1946 they moved to Mekastoe, northwest of Fort Macleod and then
into Fort Macleod in 1966. She continued to manage their rental
properties until her passing last week.
Annie was predeceased by her beloved husband, George in February
1989. Annie is survived by her two sons, William (Carole) of
Peterborough, Ont. and Donald (Gloria) of Edmonton; five grandchildren,
Geoffrey (Kerri), Julianna and Jonathan all of Toronto, James (Laura) of
Edmonton and David (Andrea) of Calgary; five great grandchildren, Jake
and Hayden of Toronto, Grace, Nicholas and Daniel of Edmonton; and her
feline companion, Chilo.
In compliance with Annie’s wishes a private funeral was held on
Monday, Jan. 18. A celebration of Annie’s life will take place in
Edmonton later this month. |
