Fort Macleod business owners interested in contracts with the
police college are polishing their resumes.
The Town of Fort Macleod Economic Development Commission is
collecting submissions from local businesses that want to
provide products or services for the team that will develop the
college.
“I want businesses to provide me with what I call a resume of their
experience and capability,” economic development officer Gordon
MacIvor said.
MacIvor was at the Chamber of Commerce luncheon Thursday at The
Fort — Museum of the North West Mounted Police to promote the
call for submissions. Businesses are asked to submit to the
Economic Development Commission a letter outlining products and
services they could provide to the police college.
“We will package their information and send it up to Alberta
Infrastructure,” MacIvor said.
The provincial government announced in August 2006 it intends to
build the $110-million Alberta Police and Peace Officers
Training Centre at Fort Macleod.
The province intends to build the college, which will train 1,500
police and peace officer recruits each year after it opens in
the fall of 2010, through a private-public partnership.
That P3 partnership opens opportunities for Fort Macleod businesses
to supply products and services to the police college.
“We’ve had calls already from local businesses,” MacIvor said.
Businesses are asked to submit their resumes by Monday, March 31 to
MacIvor at the Main Street Office.
It is expected the government will issue a request for
qualifications in May or June.
“That will be for developers to submit their resumes,” MacIvor
said.
Although there is no work being done on the site, MacIvor said the
project is moving ahead.
“It’s a slowly moving forward process,” MacIvor said.
