Granum school says
farewell to principal

 A A tearful principal on Friday said farewell to her beloved school. Lynne Penniket is ending a 19-year association with Granum school to become principal of West Meadow school in Claresholm.“This truly is a special, special place, filled with special, special people, from students to staff to parents,” Penniket said. Penniket said her goodbyes Friday during the school’s year-end awards ceremony.

Penniket told students, staff and parents she started teaching part-time at Granum school in 1990, after moving to town from Enchant. Penniket also taught part-time in Stavely for four years, and then for three years in Fort Macleod before joining the Granum staff full-time. “My passion has always been students and student leadership,” Penniket said. “That’s the thing I hope continues.”Penniket will serve as principal at West Meadow until the completion of the modernization of the new Kindergarten to Grade 6 Claresholm school. “They’re going through some tumultuous times,” Penniket said of the move in Claresholm to two schools, from three. “They want a steady hand on the helm.”

Granum school also said goodbye Friday to staff members Roberta Mark, Brenda Bryson, Carol Mackin, Curtis Spencer and Penny Craig. Penniket said Granum school students are fortunate to have such dedicated staff members.“They (students) are mentored and guided by a very special group of people,” Penniket said.

The following awards were presented Friday:Grade 6 Award — Emma Schulze.Mary Laughton Award — Martin Brink.Jeff Bryan Award — Scott Lamb, Danielle Schuler, Cole Ashley, Ryan Heck, Tiffany Herrell, Devan Sehn and Jackie Devarnichuk.Art Fjordbotten Award — Wayde Gunther.Eva Sherman Award — Jackie Devarnichuk and Amanda Charlton Red and White Award — Jackie Devarnichuk.Athletic Awards — Deanna Pitchko and Robert Van Kommer.
