Tipi camping at the buffalo jump

Visitors to Fort Macleod and district looking for an adventure find it on the plains near Head-Smashed-In Buffalo Jump.

Tipi camping co-ordinated by the interpretive centre gives people the chance for an authentic Blackfoot experience that provides deep insight into First Nations culture.

Visitors help set up the canvas tipis in which they will spend the night, learn Blackfoot legends, and hear how the Blackfoot lived off the land. Campers are sheltered, sleeping on air mattresses in sleeping bags, around the warmth of a wood-burning stove inside the canvas tipi beneath the breathtaking beauty of a prairie night.

Visitors can choose from one- and two-night packages that provide an authentic Blackfoot experience, including campfire story-telling by a Blackfoot guide, trail walks and participation in interpretive activities. The packages include all meals. Call 403-553-2731 or visit www.head-smashed-in.com.
