Every Thursday afternoon throughout the summer, the Fort Macleod
Curling Club becomes a hub of activity.
People gather around small tables when the market opens at 3 p.m.
to enjoy refreshments and swap stories, while others shop at the
Farmer’s Market tables.
“They come to find a cool place to sit and visit,” Farmer’s market
organizer Marion Van Sluys said. “This is a kind of common ground
for them.”
The Farmer’s Market launches another season Thursday, July 16 at
the curling club, where people are able to shop for fresh produce,
baked goods, preserves, antique jewellery, clothing and paintings.
That’s the kind of variety of goods people will find at the booths
for each of the 10 markets that continue every Thursday until
Sept. 16.
“The Farmer’s Market mandate is you make it, you grow it, you bake
it, you can sell it here,” Van Sluys said, adding she is allowed
to accommodate a few professional distributors.
The Fort Macleod Farmer’s Market attracts close to 20 vendors at
peak times in the season. That in turn draws crowds of more than
150 people. The last market of the season is Thursday, Sept. 16. |
