Gemmell, Nellie

Mrs. Nellie Gemmell (Morden) passed away peacefully on Friday, April 5, 2002, at the Lethbridge Regional Hospital at the age of 85 years.
Nellie was born in Purple Springs to George and Susan Rorabec. She was raised and attended school in the Lethbridge area.
She married Bill Morden on February 23, 1938, in Lethbridge and farmed in the Lethbridge area until moving to a farm north of Fort Macleod in 1959, retiring in Fort Macleod in 1971. Bill predeceased her in 1972.
Nellie married Irwin Gemmell on April 9, 1977, and they resided in Fort Macleod since. Irwin predeceased her July 21, 1999.
Nellie was an active member of the Trinity United Church and sang in the choir for many years. She was also a member of the Rebekah Lodge in both Lethbridge and Fort Macleod. She was also a member of the Welcome Mat and the Jolly Howes.
Nellie is survived by her loving family: her son, Dr. Byron (Lucille) Morden of Brooks; her daughter, Faye (Dennis) Cox of Edson; her stepsons, Donald (Jean) Gemmell of Brandon, Man., Glen (Janet) Gemmell of Medicine Hat, Ken Gemmell also of Medicine Hat, Blaine (Debbie) Gemmell of Lethbridge and Melvin Gemmell of Magrath; 14 grandchildren and several great grandchildren.
Nellie is also survived by her sisters, Cora Firth of Fort Macleod and Winnie Dixon of Lethbridge.
Nellie was also predeceased by sisters, Daisy Roloff, Pansy Cook, Mabel Cody (Cannon), Georgina Parry; and one brother, Edward Rorabeck.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, April 9, 2002, at 1 p.m. at the Trinity United Church in Fort Macleod, with Rev. Aldeen McKay officiating.
Interment followed at the Archmount Memorial Gardens, Lethbridge.
