Hornberger, Dorothy

Dorothy Fay Hornberger (nee Tolley), beloved wife of Joseph Hornberger of Fort Macleod, passed away at the Fort Macleod Extendicare on Monday, Dec. 23, 2002, at the age of 83 years.
Dorothy was born in the Longbottom district (east of Fort Macleod) on Oct. 10, 1919. She grew up in this area until June 8, 1940 when she married Joe and they moved to Orton.
Joe and Dorothy raised their six children on the farm in Orton until 1968 when they sold their farm and moved to Fort Macleod. Besides being a devoted wife and homemaker, Dorothy’s greatest passion was her family.
Dorothy enjoyed knitting, baking, reading, sewing and took pride in her flowers and garden. During these times she not only held a full-time job at Pioneer Lodge, but was actively involved in all of her family’s activities.
One of Dorothy’s favourite pastimes was travelling to Waterton Lakes and camping with her family. She always looked forward to the annual family reunions.
Dorothy was an active and devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. During this time she held various positions in the Relief Society, Primary and Young Women’s Organizations.
Besides her loving husband Joseph, Dorothy is survived by her children: Kaye (Jim) Simmonds of Salt Lake City, Utah, Gail (Ben) Fyfe of Cranbrook, B.C., Michael (Beryl) Hornberger of Lethbridge, Barry (Leslie-Anne) Hornberger of Fort Macleod, Craig (Judy) Hornberger of Calgary, Kim (Doug) Jaster of High River; 23 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
Dorothy is also survived by her brother Ted Tolley of Fort Macleod and her sister Jean Hart of Lethbridge.
She was predeceased by her parents, five brothers and one sister.
The funeral service was held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Fort Macleod on Saturday, Dec. 28, 2002, at 1 p.m. with Bishop Brian Waldie officiating. Interment in the Orton Cemetery.
Friends met with the family at the church from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. prior to the service.
