Lomnes, Dorothy

On Dec. 2, 2002, Dorothy Lomnes of Wetaskiwin passed away at the age of 87 years.
Dorothy is survived by her loving family, including her son Randy (Audrey) Lomnes of Vancouver; daughter Wendy Lomnes of Calgary; grandsons Brent Lomnes of Kelowna and Greg Lomnes of Vancouver; brothers and sisters Lloyd Pinder and George (Nellie) Pinder of Fort Macleod, Irene (Rod) Douglas of Delta, B.C., Tom (Bev) Pinder and Pam (Larry) Gingras of Calgary; numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Dorothy was predeceased by her husband Harry in 2001; parents Minnie and Jim Pinder; brother Billy; sisters Elsie Hoglund and Mary Ringland.
Dorothy Ruth Helena Pinder was born and raised in Fort Macleod, the fourth of 10 children born to Minnie and Jim Pinder. The family ran a dairy business and every member played a part.
After high school, Dorothy trained as a teacher and held several teaching positions in the vicinity of Fort Macleod. In December 1939 she married fellow teacher Harry Lomnes and moved to the Camrose area where their son Randy was born in May 1942.
In 1943, Harry’s teaching career brought the family to Wetaskiwin, where a daughter Wendy was born in December 1948.
Dorothy was very active with the United Church and held various volunteer positions in the community.
Dorothy loved the outdoors, gardening and travelling. After retirement, Harry and Dorothy were able to travel extensively to every corner of the globe via tours and cruises.
During the past 22 months, Dorothy enjoyed living at Madyson Manor in Wetaskiwin.
Friends were invited to pay their respects at Baker Funeral Chapel on Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2002, from 3-5 p.m.
Funeral service will be held from Wetaskiwin First United Church, 5115 51st Ave. on Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2002, at 1 p.m. with Rev. Jim Reeb officiating. Interment will follow at the Wetaskiwin Memorial Cemetery.
Memorial donations are gratefully accepted to the Alzheimer’s Society — Wetaskiwin Chapter, or to the Wetaskiwin First United Church.
