Swanson, Mary

It is with great sadness that the family of Mary Catherine Swanson (Kearns) of Fort Macleod announces her passing on Saturday, May 4, 2002, at the age of 86 years.
Mary will be lovingly remembered by her children and grandchildren: daughter, Sonja, of Vulcan; son, James, his wife Amy and their children Alexander, Brendan and Troy, of Edmonton; son, Larry, of Toronto; and daughter, Gwen Brandley, her husband Tim and their children Heidi, Marty and Sarah, of Ottawa; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends in Canada, the United States and Ireland.
Mary was well known as a published poet, playwright, composer and educator and taught Grade 2 in Fort Macleod from 1959 to 1981. She pursued her education at Normal School, and the Universities of Alberta and Lethbridge and obtained a Bachelor of Education degree in English Literature.
She instructed Catechism and was an active Block Parent. Her love of children was reciprocated by the legions of pupils who enjoyed her tutelage and wisdom.
She was an excellent and devoted bridge player and hosted many parties for that game. Mary was very proud of her Irish heritage and traveled there on two occasions. Her ready wit, humour and gift of the gab will be sadly missed. Slan leat go foill, Mhuire.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at Holy Cross Roman Catholic Church, 2604 Third Ave., Fort Macleod, at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 11, 2002. Internment to follow.
