Thaell, Ted

Ted (John F.) Thaell, born in 1917, passed away in the company of his family on Sunday, Sept. 1, 2002, in the Fort Macleod Hospital.
He was predeceased by his wife, Kay, in 1991.
He is survived by his son, Ted (Jody); daughter, Rhona (Bob) Harkness; and grandchildren, Shelby (Jason) Austin, Courtney (Michael) Dyck, Robb Thaell, and Todd and Ashley Harkness.
He had one great grandchild, Hannah Dyck.
He is also survived by his sisters, Muriel (Bill) Day and Doris (Jack) Davis and numerous nephews and nieces.
Ted was born in Lethbridge and moved to Fort Macleod in 1930. After brief stints in the Canadian Armed Services and Whitehall Grocery, he joined his father, Fred, in the men’s wear, tailoring and dry cleaning business — later known as Fred & Ted Thaell Men’s Wear. He and his wife, Kay, worked in the store until their retirement in 1984.
He served with the volunteer fire department, Chamber of Commerce and Rotary Club. He was a proud member of the Masonic Lodge and later the Shriners.
In his retirement, Ted loved motorcycling and snowmobiling with his close friends, Harry Chapman and Harry Irwin. He loved camping in Waterton with his extended family and hiked as late as two summers ago.
The family would like to thank his friends and family who visited often and enabled him to remain in his own home until the very last month, the caring and compassionate staff of the Fort Macleod Hospital and Home Care Nurse, Angie O’Connor.
