Vandersluys, Shirley

Passed away on Monday, April 29, 2002, at Fort Macleod, Alberta, at the age of 63 years, Shirley Ann Vandersluys (nee Dmytrow), beloved wife of R. John Vandersluys of Fort Macleod.
Shirl was born in Calgary to immigrant parents Mike and Anna Dmytrow.
She grew up and received her education in Bassano. She moved to Calgary in 1956 where she attended Business College and began working for Ralph Smith Investments.
She was working for the CPR Steamship department when she met John. She and John were married in Bassano on May 16, 1959. Shirl worked for her father-in-law for a short time.
They moved to Fort Macleod in 1975 when John took up employment with Eden’s Funeral Home. She worked for Bud Williams for a few years and also at the Bargain Shop until she retired due to illness.
Shirl was a member of the Order of Eastern Star until taking her demit, also due to illness.
Besides her loving husband John, Shirl is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Deloralie (George Jr.) Brown of Fort Macleod; one son, Michael of Chilliwack, BC.; two grandchildren, Lindsay and Tyler Brown; and one sister, Mrs. Dolores (Greg) Schmaltz of Edmonton.
She is also survived by several aunts and cousins in Alberta and Manitoba.
Shirley was predeceased by her father Michael, and her mother Anna.
A funeral service was held in Eden’s Funeral Chapel, Fort Macleod, on Friday, May 3, 2002, at 2 p.m. with Rev. Aldeen McKay officiating. Cremation.
