Gregory, Hazel

Hazel Mildred Gregory, formerly of Pincher Creek, much loved mother, grandmother and great grandmother, passed away peacefully at Little Bow Continuing Care Centre in Carmangay after a lengthy illness, on April 14 at the age of 87.
She was the beloved wife of the late Ray Gregory of Pincher Creek and loving mother of three sons, Earl (Mary), Wayne (Gisele) and Martin (Dianne). She dearly loved her grandchildren: Bruce Gregory and Violet (Marc) Myers as well as her four great grandchildren, Sheri and Andrew Gregory and Amanda and Kayla Myers.
Hazel was predeceased by her husband Ray in 1978; her parents Fred and Florence Bustard; four brothers, George, Lorne, Fred and Tom; and three sisters Florence, Edna and Ella.
Hazel was born on the Bustard family farm in the Hillsboro district, the third of eight children. Hazel married Ray Gregory on Jan. 2, 1934 and together they operated the family farm until 1973 when they retired to Pincher Creek.
Hazel was always a good friend and neighbour. She loved to have friends in for tea and cards, especially canasta. She loved to bake and always had a fresh supply of buns and pies.
She was always busy participating in various functions, volunteering at church, making quilts, gardening, travelling and visiting at Crestview Lodge and the hospital. For many years Hazel was an active member of both Hillsview and Spring Point Ladies’ Clubs.
Hazel was named Citizen of the Year in 1989 for Pincher Creek and area. She gave many hours of her time as co-ordinator of the Heart Fund for Pincher Creek and area for 17 years. Hazel also served a term as Noble Grand for the Rebekah Lodge.
In 1994 Hazel left the area due to ill health and resided at Little Bow Continuing Care Centre in Carmangay. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the staff of Little Bow Continuing Care Centre for all their excellent care, kindness and respect for Hazel. Thank you also to all relatives and friends who so supported Mom during her illness.
A memorial service was held at the Pincher Creek United Church, on Thursday, April 17, 2003, at 1:30 p.m.
