Johnson, Bill

James William George (Bill) Johnson, beloved husband of Isabel Johnson of Fort Macleod, passed away in perfect peace with his family at his side, at the Fort Macleod Hospital on Saturday, March 22, 2003, at the age of 74 years. Bill fought a long and courageous battle with emphysema.
Bill was born May 20, 1928 at Dodsland, Sask. and spent his early years in this area. The family moved to the Avonhill district northeast of Kindersley, where Bill completed his schooling.
He worked at various jobs, spending many years in the oilfields. One of the highlights of his life was the time he worked as a mechanic for a rig in Alaska.
On Aug. 12, 1968 he married Isabel Lowes. In 1974, Bill and Isabel and family moved to Fort Macleod, where Bill worked at Norfab Homes and later at the Nobleford Plant, assembling farm equipment. His health conditions forced him to retire in 1988.
Bill was a hard-working man with the ability to repair and recycle almost anything, which he loved to do. He had a hobby of collecting lapel pins of many kinds and from many places. Bill loved to camp, hunt and fish when his health permitted. Family was important to Bill and he kept in close contact by phone in his last years, when he could not travel.
Bill is survived by his wife Isabel Johnson; his daughter Natalie Mortensen; his son Mark Johnson; son-in-law Rod Mortensen and by his special grandchildren, Samantha and Sean Mortensen, all of Fort Macleod.
Bill is also survived by his brother Ron and Dora Johnson of North Battleford, Sask. and their family; his sister Willowmine Eastcott of Calgary and her family; his brother Tom and Julie Johnson of Golden, B.C.; his sister Carol and Gordon Norberg of Hay River, NWT and their family and by his wife’s parents: Jack and Dorothy Campbell of Dodsland, Sask.
Bill was predeceased by his parents George and Lucy Johnson of Kindersley; his brother Keith Johnson of Kindersley; his nephew Rick Eastcott of the U.S.; his nephew Jason Eastcott of Calgary and by his brother-in-law Jack Lowes of Edmonton.
The funeral service was held at Eden’s Funeral Home, Fort Macleod on Wednesday, March 26, 2003, at 11 a.m. with Captain Sam Roberts officiating.
Honorary pallbearers are all of Bill’s friends. Interment took place on Thursday, March 27, 2003, at Kindersley, Sask.
