McLeod, Ernest

Ernest Donald McLeod, beloved husband of Emma McLeod of Orton, passed away at Three Hills on Monday, Oct. 13, 2003, at the age of 80 years.
Ernest was born in Deloraine, Man. on Dec. 29, 1922. He married Emma Nelson 56 years ago in Winnipeg on Nov. 10, 1947.
Ernest and Emma adopted four children — two boys and two girls: Ken McLeod (Robby) of Manitoba, Sharon Booth (Ken) of Chilliwack, B.C., Robert McLeod of Brooks and Carol Tersigni (Vic) of Trochu. They also have one foster child, Dan Larcher of Fort Macleod, 12 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
Ernest and Emma started their first home at Butler (now Kola), Man.
They farmed for five years and then a decision was made to either work the oilfields or go back to the military. Ernest spent his early years in the military during World War Two. The military won out and they were based in Calgary for two years and Winnipeg for four years.
Then they were off to Washington, D.C. for three years and then Chilliwack, B.C. for 12 years. They moved from Chilliwack in 1973 to Youngstown, Alta. where they worked for one year on a ranch and then moved on to Oyen for five years, working on a ranch. They then bought a house in West Lethbridge and lived there for five years.
Ernest and Emma then moved to Orton, their retirement home. Ernie’s health has been in poor condition for years, due to diabetes and heart problems. His life was a busy one, looking after foster children and moving with the military.
Ernest was predeceased by his parents, Louis and Winnifred McLeod; his brothers, Leonard, Eddie and John; and by his brothers-in-law Gilbert Lafloe and Ray Burney.
A funeral service was held at Eden’s Funeral Home on Saturday, Oct. 18, 2003, at 1:30 p.m. with Bishop John Whitehead officiating. Interment in the Orton Cemetery.
