Orr, Rowena Frances

Rowena Frances Orr Gardner left us on Feb. 26, 2003 in Salt Lake City, Utah after a courageous battle against cancer.
She was born June 16, 1948 in Lethbridge to Marjorie Seely and Wallace Lloyd Orr. She was raised in Fort Macleod, where she excelled in musical pursuits. Many times she was the winner of piano festivals in Lethbridge and Calgary, and spent her high school summers studying piano at the Banff School of Fine Arts.
She attended Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah and there met her future husband, Wayne L. Gardner. They were married in the Cardston Temple on Dec. 30, 1970.
Rowena spent her married life in Houston, Texas, and Mesa, Arizona where she and Wayne raised their four children, Luana, Quinton, Teneal and Mandy. Her children have all been raised with her love of music, and a desire for higher education and learning.
From June 2000 until her diagnosis with cancer in the fall of 2002, she was with her husband in Chile, where he was serving as mission president of the Santiago Chile East Mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. There she was “Mission Mom” to roughly 200 missionaries ages 19 to 23.
Rowena was radiantly happy, and shared her talents with all. It was not unusual to see her as a pianist, organist or choir director. She also served with the Primary, Young Women and Relief Society organizations of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
She is survived by her parents, Wallace and Marjorie Orr; her siblings, Carmen Orr Toth (Jim) and Quinn Lindsay Orr (Susan); her husband, Wayne; and her children and grandchildren, Luana Crowder (Shannon) and their boys Alex and Kelly; Quinton Gardner (Joy) and their daughter Noel; Teneal, and Mandy; and many wonderful extended family members.
There was a memorial service on Saturday, March 15, 1:30 p.m. at the Fort Macleod Stake Centre, 643 20th St., Fort Macleod.
