Smit, Grace

Grace Smit of Fort Macleod passed away at the Lethbridge Regional Hospital on Saturday, Aug. 9, 2003 at the age of 91 years.
Grace was born July 24, 1912 on the family farm east of Granum, the oldest daughter of Kornelis and Tetje Veenkamp.
On April 5, 1933 she married John Smit. They farmed in the Hollandale district, north of Fort Macleod, where she resided until her passing.
Grace is survived by her three sons, John, Kornie and Jake of Fort Macleod; and her two daughters, Thelma (Bill) Deurloo of Granum and Lena (Ron) Caldwell of Calgary.
She is also survived by nine grandchildren, Grant (Jeanette) Deurloo of Granum, Jim (Jackie) Deurloo of Grande Prairie, Sherri Deurloo of Granum, Lori (John) Van Eck of Barrhead, Sue (Neal) Konynenbelt of Pine Lake, Alan (Karen) Caldwell of Calgary, Steven (Teresa Pujol) Caldwell of Calgary, Kenneth Smit of Fort Macleod and Sharon (Lyndon) Dyck of Lethbridge; eight great grandchildren; and by her sister Annie Vos of Fort Macleod.
Grace was predeceased by her husband John in 1990; her daughter in-law Rita Smit in 1995; two great grandsons, Justin Konynenbelt in 1987 and Tyler Konynenbelt in 1991; one brother Tom Veenkamp in 1985; and by her sister Hilda Genesis in 1978.
A funeral service will be held at the Granum Christian Reformed Church on Thursday, Aug. 14, 2003, at 2 p.m. with Rev. Jim Zondervan officiating. Interment in the Granum Christian Reformed Cemetery.
