Sup, William (Willie)

It is with great sadness that the family of William C. (Willie) Sup, beloved husband of the late Mary Sup, announce his passing on Friday, Dec. 5, 2003, at the age of 73 years, after a strong and brave battle with cancer.
Willie was born in Strathmore on Dec. 30, 1929, and moved with his mother to the farm east of Fort Macleod in 1943.
On Oct. 9, 1953, he married his soul mate and love of his life, Mary Pansky. Together they shared 47 years filled with love, respect and admiration for each other. They retired to Fort Macleod eight years ago, where they enjoyed their beautiful home by the river and continued to share special times together with their family and friends.
Willie was born at home on his parents’ farm. From that day and even in his retirement years he loved farming and took pride in the life the land provided for him and his family.
He enjoyed many hobbies, reading, travelling, camping, playing the piano and accordion, his favourite was being out in his workshop either building or repairing for himself, family or friends.
Willie was able to complete his retirement project of restoring his 1949 Massey Harris 44 tractor that he purchased new at the age of 19. He was very proud of his tractor and his accomplishment. He was able to drive it shortly before he passed away.
Willie was an active community and church member. He was president of the Pearce Rural Telephone Co., UGG (Agricore) delegate, Holy Cross Parish chairman, Grand Knight and fourth degree Knight of Columbus, Parish and Welcome Mat choir member, and a friend to all who knew him.
Willie is survived by his daughter Judy (Bryce) Meldrum and their children Jason and Lindsay; his son Peter (Veronica) and their children: Celina, Brittany and Zachary; his cousins, Karel, Eduard and Ria van Aken of the Netherlands, Rudy van Aken of Hamilton, Ont., Sister M. Bernarda of Indiana and Huber van Dongen of Calgary; step nieces Colleen Strebchuk and Darlene Langlois and by numerous nieces and nephews here in Canada and in the Netherlands and Germany.
He was predeceased by his wife Mary on Oct. 7, 2002; his parents Piet and Helena Sup; his stepfather Abraham Zevenbergen; his father-in-law John Pansky; his mother-in-law Katrina Pansky and by his stepsister Antonia Cote.
Willie was a special husband, dad and grandpa and has left us a legacy of love, family and friendship. Our time together was precious and a gift we will treasure always.
He was very proud of his family and all they had accomplished. His grandchildren were very special to him and were his pride and joy.
His friendly nature, kindness, humor and gentle smile will always remain with us. He was a faithful friend, an honest, warm and caring man. He will be greatly missed and forever remembered by his family and everyone whose lives and hearts he touched.
Vigil rites (prayers) were held at Holy Cross Catholic Church, Fort Macleod on Friday, Dec. 12, 2003, at 7 p.m. The funeral mass was held at Holy Cross Catholic Church on Saturday, Dec. 13, 2003, at 11:00 with Father A. Fermo and Father M. Joly concelebrating.
