Byam, Albert Ernest

Albert Ernest Byam passed away peacefully in his home in Cowichan Lake, B.C. on May 26, 2004, with his family by his side.
Albert (Al) was born Aug. 20, 1950, in Medicine Hat, loving son of Linda Byam (nee Grams) and the late Frederick Daniel Byam (May 1989).
The family moved to Bow Island in 1955 where he attended school. In 1963 they relocated to Fort Macleod.
Al completed his schooling and worked at the Plywood Factory. Later Al moved to Lethbridge where he worked for General News. In 1970, he moved to Calgary, where he began work with Canada Post.
In 1984, he took a transfer to Victoria, B.C. Al lived in Sooke, and there he met Rosalind Ann Wilson. Together with her son Jeremy, they made their home. In November 1987, their daughter, pride and joy of Al’s life, Amber Rose, was born.
In 1994 the family moved to Lake Cowichan where they found their dream house on the lake and planned to retire there. Al loved the water, and you would find him diving off the dock several times during the nice months of the year. He was always the first one in the water in the spring, and the last one in the fall.
Al loved everything about life. He always found a way to make others smile and laugh. He loved nature and had a green thumb. In his gardens you would always find a new plant or tree, and he knew the name of every one of them.
He found time to go fly his model planes, boats and cars with his friends. He enjoyed tinkering with his computer and would spend hours talking to his family and buddies each day. He loved to take pictures and videos of nature, his friends and family.
Wherever Al went, he always left a little something special behind — his appreciation of life and beauty. He always said, “You should take time to smell the flowers and enjoy things.”
His family and friends, along with his four-legged companions (Raku and Abony) were the most important things in his life.
He leaves behind his lifelong partner, Rosalind Ann Wilson and their children Jeremy and Amber of Cowichan Lake, B.C.; his loving mother Linda Byam; brother Arnie Byam (Cindy); sister Paulene Droppo (Dan); niece and nephews Danette, Michael and Ian Bergen all of Fort Macleod; his mother- and father-in-law Margaret and Bill Brown; sister-in-law Cindy Grahame (Roland) of Sooke, B.C.; and brother-in-law Peter Brown of Victoria, B.C.; along with many special friends.
He will always be remembered and missed by everyone whose lives he touched.
A memorial service will be held in Duncan, B.C. on June 14, 2004.
