Hedley, Hillie

Hillie Hedley, beloved wife of the late Wes Hedley of Fort Macleod, passed away peacefully at the Lethbridge Regional Hospital on Sunday, May 23, 2004, at the age of 64 years.
She will be missed so much by her daughter Dixie (Andy) Charlebois and her grandsons Nicholas and Daniel.
Hillie was born Feb. 4, 1940 in Oosterhoogebrug, Groningen, Holland.
She was predeceased, at the very young age of six, by her parents Gees and Roelof. Hillie was raised by many wonderful aunts and uncles in Groningen, Holland.
She trained to become a nurse in Holland and worked there until she was 21 years old. Hillie came to Canada in March, 1961 to visit her closest cousin Tina Cleaver (Maas). She loved the country and decided to stay for awhile and she became plant nurse for the B.A. Gas Plant in Pincher Creek.
In 1964, Hillie married Wes Hedley and moved to the Spring Point community. She enjoyed many years of ranching life with large gardens, picking berries or wildflowers, branding parties, chasing Dixie away from the creek, quilting gatherings and made many wonderful friends.
During this time, Hillie was diagnosed with Crohn’s Disease which would be a 35-year battle for her. Her true spirit, selfless character and strong will showed through, as she never let her disease keep her from being a wonderful wife, mother and friend.
In 1978, Wes and Hillie retired in Fort Macleod and she enjoyed knitting, quilting, playing bridge, gardening, baking apple pie and fishing with Wes.
She was a wonderful and devoted mother and grandmother. Those who knew her are aware of the deep love and caring she had for her family and many friends. Hillie was a great listener and generous person.
Besides her daughter Dixie and family, Hillie is survived by Wes’ children: Ken (Bernice) Hedley and family and Marilyn (Pat) Nicholson and family.
Special thanks and sincere appreciation to the many people who gave so much time and great loving care all through her illness: the TPN team at the Foothills Hospital, Dr. Noel Hershfield, Lethbridge Regional Hospital ICU team, the Fort Macleod Hospital staff, Dr. R.S. David and the Fort Macleod Home Care staff.
A memorial service was held at Eden’s Funeral Home, Fort Macleod on Friday, May 28, 2004, at 2 p.m. with Rev. Noel Wygiera officiating.
